River Keepers Recognition

– River Keepers, a Fargo-Moorhead non-profit organization has been chosen as the 2012 recipient of the Cass County Soil Conservation District’s Urban Steward Award for their substantial efforts in providing the Fargo-Moorhead community with conservation education and for their continual partnership to the District.  This is an annual award presented by Cass County Soil Conservation District’s Urban Conservation Program which recognizes significant contributions to the conservation of the growing urban spaces within the Red River Valley.

For almost ten years, River Keepers has been dedicated to creating and promoting resource related community education courses focusing on important conservation needs in our community in a unique and exciting way.  Some of River Keeper’s innovative programs have included rain barrel, compost tumbler, composting, and rain garden workshops. In addition they teach a variety of other youth and adult water based education workshops.  Through these courses and their many efforts to provide education and outreach, River Keepers has been an integral part of bringing awareness of important conservation issues within the Red River Valley and thus has been selected as the Cass County Soil Conservation District’s 2012 Urban Steward.
