REFUGE PHEASANT SEASON OPENS NOVEMBER 22
The Tewaukon National Wildlife Refuge will open to pheasant hunting on Monday, November 22, 2010. The Refuge will remain open to pheasant hunting through January 2, 2011. Both the Tewaukon and the Sprague Lake Unit, southwest of Rutland, are open.
Hunters are reminded that the Refuge season is open to pheasants only.  Sharp-tailed grouse, Hungarian partridge, coyotes and other species cannot be taken, even if a hunter has a valid license for these species. Refuge pheasant hunters are required to use non-toxic shot. Nontoxic shot is also required on Waterfowl Production Areas for upland bird hunting.
Hunters must walk in and park in designated areas where they won’t be blocking approaches or trails. The only interior Refuge road open, other than county or township roads, is the North Lake Trail beginning at County Road 12 to the north boat ramps. Regulations regarding bag limits, shooting hours, and methods are the same as posted in the ND Game & Fish Small Game and Furbearer Hunting Guide. Information about areas closed to hunting and parking sites on the Refuge can be found in the blaze orange Fall and Winter Visitor Information pamphlet available at the kiosks by the Visitor Center and various locations around Tewaukon and Sprague Lakes. You can also call the office at 724-3598 to have one mailed to you.
Have a safe and successful hunting season.
