Like many other writers I find myself personally and professionally looking back at the last 12 months. As far as work and the outdoors goes, here’s the crafted column. What you won’t read about is that April 28 marked the end of almost a 7 year run of Outdoors Live radio Saturday on 6 stations [...]

when the dump trumps fishing
I asked my son Joe who is 5 what he wants to do for New Years Eve. Do you want to go ice fishing, pheasant hunting? I know it’s a bit cold and windchill won’t make outdoors much fun for a 5 year old, but I want to give him the option. You know what [...]

a plug for pizza….Pizza Corner that is
this story came from the Valley City Times-Record. Honestly, living in Valley City for a few years, I can tell you the people in that town dont’ realize the quality of pizza until they move. Like everything else, it’s better when you miss it. If you’ve never had a pizza pie from the actual store [...]

Krispy Kreme in Fargo is closing
I’m not a huge donut fan…not really…but I am a fan of Sandy’s Donut shop in West Fargo. Have been since I moved here in 1997. And for a change [...]

Ron Schara in his own words
I blogged yesterday about Dennis Anderson bidding farewell to Ron Schara’s column. Four decades of columns, ending with this one, have produced thousands of tales for an outdoorsman to relay. Here’s Ron’s grand finale… he didnt die. He’s just focusing on Minnesota Bound…

elk rescue in Colorado
In one of the most unusual emergency operations in Colorado this year, three cow elk that fell through the ice of a private pond south of Pagosa Springs were rescued by Division of Wildlife officers, a local volunteer fire fighter and ten other law enforcement workers. The rescue occurred on Dec. 15. Another elk, a [...]

putting down the pen?
Ron Schara is going to adjust his focus and his sites don’t include writing his regular column but pouring his efforts into Minnestoa bound. I’ve interviewed Ron and followed his work the past 5 or so years, and respect his opinion and generally fall into his line of conservation philosophy. Dennis Anderson and others have [...]

day’s are getting longer?
I’m not sure how many more minutes we’re adding each day since the winter solstice of Dec 21-22, but we are adding daylight. It’s moving in the right direction and that’s a nice bit of hope in this winter wonderland of North Dakota…..
